The niche that I know and love is action/adventure contemporary fantasy for middle school and Young Adults (though many adults have told me they love it just as much as their kids). The fantasy is set in the real world with fantastical powers. No dragons, elves, vampires, etc... Think the audiences of Chronicles Of Narnia, Percy Jackson, Harry Potter & Michael Vey.
